Hvaløy is easily accessible from Tønsberg and Nøtterøy and is a good starting point for day trips. There have been people living on this island since the 1600s. The beautiful cultural landscape with stone fences, ancient pastures, and beautiful oaks is great for taking a walk. There are marked coastal paths on the island. The island has nice bathing areas, toilets and docks on the east side, as well as several other places to moor boats or kayaks. On the island there are good opportunities to set up a tent. There are several campfire sites on the island if you want to light a fire or grill. There are grazing animals on the island, so be careful and keep your dog on a leash.
